Koala Free Crochet Pattern

I can’t. stop. using. fur yarn. in. my. projects.

I apologize to to anyone who absolutely detests using fur yarn but I can’t help it! It just adds so much character and dimension! Luckily, this pattern uses only a very tiny amount of fur yarn and is very manageable! (and if fur yarn is your sworn nemesis and you refuse to use it, you can absolutely substitute regular bulky weight yarn for the belly patch and the ears instead — but I think you should give it another chance! 😀 )

Check out some of my other crochet projects using fur yarn: Cozy Snowman, Teddy Bear, Bauble, Bumble, Eevee, Hedgehog, Nutcracker, Baby Otter, Love Monster, Jack…phew.)

This little guy is slightly bigger than the palm of your hand and is such a cute little desk mate! I think the slightly fuzzy Hygge yarn really adds a lot to this design as well!

Let’s get into it!

The Details

As usual, this pattern is made in the same style as my Ragdoll patterns; separate pieces worked in flat rows and then joined together to give them that unique 2-D look. This project has a total of 13 pieces.

The finished measurements are approximately 15cm/6″ tall.

Notes:

  1. The body is constructed of two panels worked in rows from the legs up and then joined by single crocheting around the outside of the panels. The belly panel is stitched onto the front body panel before assembly.
  2. The head is constructed of two panels worked in rows from the bottom up and then joined by single crocheting around the outside of the panels.
  3. The nose is worked in rounds around a starting chain and is stitched onto the front head panel before assembly.
  4. The ear panels are worked into a magic ring but are worked in turned rows and joined by single crocheting around the panels. The inner ear fluff is then stitched onto the front of each ear.
  5. The head is stitched onto the body.
  6. The arms are worked in continuous rounds and stitched onto the Koala after assembly.
  7. The ears are then stitched onto the Koala after assembly.
  8. Ch 1 at the end of each row does not count as a stitch.
