Springtime is here again. And in the Spring, there’s nothing I love more than an adorable bunny pattern. (Seriously, check out my other bunny patterns here, here, here, here, and here! Phew!)
I crocheted a little egg to go with each bunny but you could easily substitute it for some real chocolate treats if you are giving this cutie as a gift (in fact, I recommend it!). Or, feel free to decorate your crochet egg with embroidery or other designs, like polka dots or chevrons.
The Details
This pattern is primarily made in the same style as my Ragdoll patterns; separate pieces worked in flat rows and then joined together. The finished measurements are approximately 17cm/6.5″ from top to bottom.
Notes:
- The body panels are worked flat from the bottom up. The front panel uses the tapestry crochet technique to work the colour-work for the ears. Please read the “Colour-Work” section below.
- The front and back paws are worked in continuous rounds.
- The facial features are stitched onto the front panel.
- The body panels are assembled by placing one on top of the other and crocheting around the edges of the panels. The front paws are attached during this assembly. The piece is then stuffed. The back paws are attached at the end.
- The egg panels are worked flat from the bottom up and are assembled in the same way as the body panels.
- Ch 1 at end of each row does not count as a stitch.
Colour-Work
Due to the colour changes in the ears, you will have at least two balls of yarn attached (one MC and one Pink). You can then simply carry the yarn across the back of the panel and carry the yarn upwards for the next row. Do not crochet the unused yarn inside the stitch as this can show through on the front and alter the size of the stitch; always carry it on the back.
When changing colours, you will insert your hook into the stitch for the last stitch of Colour X and pull up a loop. Then, with Colour Y, yarn over and complete the stitch by pulling through both loops with Colour Y. Drop your working yarn in Colour X and continue with Colour Y. You will pick your Colour X working yarn back up again when you need it.
Make sure to always drop your yarn on the WRONG side of your panel! This will be different depending on whether you’re working an odd or even row. For the front panel, whenever you are working an odd-numbered row (row 1, 3, 5, etc), the right side of your panel will be facing you. When you’re working an even-numbered row, the wrong side will be facing you.

Move on to assembly below!

Assembly:
Step 1: Insert 9mm safety eyes into the front panel between rows 22-23 (in line with the top of the cheeks) with about 9 sts between them.
Step 2: In pink, make a horizontal stitch between the eyes (between rows 21-22) to create the nose. In black crochet thread, make a vertical stitch underneath the nose to create the mouth. If desired, add eyelashes, eyebrows, and/or cheeks now.
Step 3: Place the front an back panels together with the wrong sides facing. On the left side of the head, insert your hook through both panels and begin single crocheting around the edges to join them. Stop when you get to the bottom of the head on the left side. You will now attach the first front paw. Line up the front paw with the edge of the body panels (around rows 12-16, just below where the head starts). Insert your hook through both layers of the paw and the body panels and continue single crocheting across to join them.
Continue crocheting down and around the body and up the other side. Stop around row 12 (about 5 rows below where the head starts). Attach the second front paw the same way you did for the first.

Stuff the body.
Continue crocheting up the side of the head. Switch to Pink when you reach the first ear (for a more beginner-friendly approach, feel free to use the MC the entire time, however, this will slightly affect the overall appearance of the ears). Switch back to MC where appropriate. Stop toward the bottom of the ear and stuff the head and ear. Continue crocheting up and around the second ear, switching back to Pink when needed. Again, toward the bottom of the ear, stop and stuff the ear, as well as topping up the stuffing of the head. Continue crocheting around. Slst to beginning st to close. Weave ends.
Step 4: Stitch the back paws onto the front of the body at each side. Weave ends.
Step 5: Line up the front panel and back panel of the egg with wrong sides facing. Insert your hook through both panels at any stitch and begin single crocheting around the edges to join them. When you’ve crocheted about 3/4 of the way around, stop and stuff. Continue crocheting around, topping up stuffing as needed. Slst to beg st to close and tie off. Weave ends.
