The year is flying by and we’re already in the summer months, which always makes me think of beaches, the ocean and, by extension, sea creatures! I just love how this little squid amigurumi turned out, but it was so hard to pick the colours! I think this pattern would look great in pinks and blues too.
The Details
As usual, the body of this pattern is made in the same style as my Ragdoll patterns; separate pieces worked in flat rows and then joined together to give them that unique 2-D look.
The finished measurements are approximately 25cm/10″ from top to bottom.
Notes:
- The body panels and the legs are worked from the bottom up in flat rows.
- The face and spots are stitched onto the front panel before assembly.
- The body panels are single crocheted together to join them and then stuffed.
- The leg panels are then single crocheted together to join them and then stuffed. Once the legs are assembled, they are attached to the body.
- The tentacles are worked in continuous rounds and are attached after assembly of the body and legs.
- Ch 1 at the end of each row does not count as a stitch.

Move on to assembly below!
Assembly:
- Insert 10mm safety eyes into the front body panel between rows 6-7 with approximately 10 sts between them. Add pink cheeks if you wish.
- Using black crochet thread or yarn, stitch a mouth onto the front body panel at rows 5-6 between the eyes and spanning about 2 stitches.
- Using both dark and light purple, stitch spots onto the top right-side of the front body panel by making french knots. If you’re not sure, take a look at this tutorial on how to do a french knot.
- Place both body panels together, matching up all rows and with the front facing you. Starting near the top on the left side, begin attaching the panels together by inserting your hook through both panels and single crocheting around the outside edge of the panels in teal. Work the following into each of the bottom corners: (Sc, ch 1, sc) all in the same st. Once you’ve crocheted around the bottom and part way up the other side, stop and stuff. Continue crocheting up the other side, stuffing as you go. When only the top remains open, stuff firmly. Continue crocheting around and close with an invisible join. Weave ends.
- Place both leg panels together, matching up all rows and with the front facing you. Starting near the top on the left side, begin attaching the panels together by inserting your hook through both panels and single crocheting around the outside edge of the panels in dark purple. Work the following into each of the top corners: (Sc, ch 1, sc) all in the same st. To create a nice curve around each leg, work the following into the top of each leg: (Sc 3) in the same. Once you’ve crocheted around each leg, stop and lightly stuff each individual leg. Continue crocheting across the top. Close with an invisible join. Weave ends.
- Position the legs below the body such that the bottom stitching of the body is overlapping onto the legs slightly. Stitch into place using dark purple. Weave ends.
- Stitch the tentacles onto the back of the body so that they hang down between the first and last two legs. Weave ends.
